you can see this chair sucked.
it was WAY wobbly.
plus, look, you can't sit there!
its a hole!
there were two chair backs tied together with twine!
wtf kind of chair is this, you ask?
i have had this old chair for a long time!
actually, its whats left of a set of 2 chairs.
i found them when i lived in Florida.
once, i burned candles on them during a hurricane.
i like the chairs for some reason.
in fact, i liked them enough to drag them to Illinois..
..where one of them fell completely apart and was thrown out.
(except for the back of it...)
The chairs eventually made it all the way up to British Columbia!
but they have been useless for years.
all that remained of one chair was the back.
i dont even know why i would keep just the back of a chair.
i guess i really liked these chairs.

i wanted to fix the chair, this is how i did it in 25 steps:
_______________________________________________
1.) untied the twine holding the chair backs together
2.) removed screws retaining corner bracing
3.) carpenters glue to the rescue!
4.) glued leg support pegs and their pockets
5.) glued the grooves and ribs on the corner bracing
6.) replaced corner bracing retention screws
7.) glued seat slat edges
8.) balanced it like this for a little while
9.) see how the seat slats fit together?
10.) glued the seat to the frame with a bead along the mating surface
11.) screwed the corner bracing into the seat

great, the chair is now restored to its former glory.
..but, what should i do with that extra chair back?
well..
..WHATS STRONGER THAN ONE CHAIR BACK?
TWO CHAIR BACKS!

12.) these broken pegs from the old chair were in the way
13.) so i used a file to grind them away!
14.) call in the re-enforcements!
15.) the screws were about the perfect length
16.) the drill bit i used was slightly smaller in diameter than the screws
17.) marked the chair with an X where i wanted to drill holes
18.) drilling!
19.) i always use a block of wood so i don't drill into the floor.
see the hole that occurs when the drill goes through the chair?
this block of wood is part of a desk i crashed through at EA Chicago.
20.) 4 holes per side
21.) used my holes as guides to drill into the other chair back
22.) a screw broke after being over-torqued on its way in
23.) a drill bit broke as i tried to enlarge the holes
24.) i used the proper bit size, drilled the holes, and screwed it together!
eight screws now hold the chair backs together, can you see them?
25.) the final product!
